I arrived home from work today in a great mood because I finally received my award letter for financial aid, registered for my classes and typed up my letter of resignation. I excitedly relay the news to my parents who of course react negatively. I reply sarcastically that I'm glad I have such supportive & encouraging parents. Then my dad starts with his snide remarks, such as, "I do encourage you, I encourage you to clean your damn room once in a while." This from a man who calls out for my mother to come make their bed every night when he's ready to turn in. Then there was, "You're 32 years old, you ought to be encouraging yourself." To which my reply was something to the effect of, wasn't that exactly what I'm doing? Then Brandi, my youngest sister started to make a comment in my defense until my father cut her off by saying the infamous "Who yanked your chain? No one asked for you opinion, stay out of it." Hmmm come to think of it, I don't remember asking for his opinion either.

It wasn't easy to move in with my parents & it's not exactly an ideal situation. It's not easy to make such a big change by rearranging my whole life & going back to school. But I know in the end, Maggie & I will be better off & it will have been worth it. I'm slowly learning to tune my parents out & not let it get to me. At least my sisters are supportive; if it weren't for Chrissy I probably wouldn't even have attempted this. I'm also fortunate to have such a great circle of friends, my chosen family, who have said that they are proud of me. Thanks, it's good to know, even if my parents aren't.
